    Marriage, Family, Relationship and Intimacy

Most people start out in Marriage or intimate relationship with high hopes and dreams of happiness forever after. However, “happily ever after” inevitably passes away and there often comes a time when two people who were once lovers feel as if they have become strangers - or as if they are moving in opposite directions.

Times of trial in relationships carry a double edged sword and can bring about either the destruction of the relationship, or a renewal into a completely new and deeper level of intimacy and maturity. David Schnarch calls this the “sexual crucible”, referring to the way that metal is purified by heating it to the melting point.

Relationships are crucibles in which we can build the staying power, integrity, and strength of character to be truly WITH another - without losing ourselves. Couples who wish to attain the true heights of love, intimacy, connection, and sexual expression are couples who do what it takes to learn the tools of “person building” through the crucible of relationship.
