What is E-Counseling?
Electronic counseling, e-counseling, on-line counseling and internet counseling are all different terms for the same idea and they denote a kind of counseling that can be done at a distance.
On-line counseling works on the same principles as face to face counseling, but it can be conducted from the privacy of your own home using e-mail to communicate with your counselor.
In my experience as an on-line teacher with the Ebus Academy over the past 13 years, and as a counselor over the past 5 years, I have found that there are times when on-line connections can be very deep, meaningful, and personal.
On-line communication has the advantage of feeling very safe. It provides confidentiality; it provides time and space to think; it provides an equal playing field where age, gender, physical appearance, and health are not an issue, and it provides a sense of safety for people who are unsure about the idea of speaking with a counselor. Because of this, On-line counseling is an excellent way to test the waters – a way to try out counseling and see how it works.
Sometimes On-line counseling is a first step on a longer journey, and sometimes it is all that is necessary to resolve a troubling issue or make it through a particular “stuck” place. Either way, On-line counseling provides an opportunity to “do something right now” – and with a money back gaurantee if you’re not satisfied, there is absolutely no risk.
